CVP: A Solution to Downstream Emissions

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

Many Canadians have wondered whether the current hydrogen hype isn't another repeat of the excitement of the 2000s, and 1980s. CVP is focused on hydrogen as a solution.

Eliminating CO2 emissions from our society’s activities is a more complicated problem than just electrification or eliminating upstream petroleum emissions. 70-80% of CO2 emissions from petroleum use are caused downstream by the combustion of fuels in vehicles or at the burner tip. Electrification works for many applications but is difficult to implement quickly and less efficient in heating, industrial and bulk transport applications. Removing carbon from petroleum and sequestering it upstream - returning it to the reservoir – while delivering low to zero-carbon fuels for end use would eliminate emissions at end use.
